163 missing, 31 confirmed dead after devastating flood hit the country

“Wherever water has been, we are interested in that. That’s an immense area. It is not about a municipality, but about the province of Liège, and also names and a piece of Luxembourg. This is something we have never experienced before”, says Remue.

According to the crisis centre, the number of confirmed deaths due to the floods in Belgium is now 31. In addition, 163 persons are listed as “probably missing or unreachable”. This list may be shorter due to double counting or because people are safe but have not yet been able to let us know. If that is not done for too long, the worst is to be feared.

Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden also called the latter the harsh reality in the news.

“The damage and the extent of the disaster are so great that it is perfectly realistic that more bodies will be found.”
