In the search for the fugitive Belgian military Jürgen Conings a backpack with hunting ammunition has been found, according to VRT NWS on Thursday, according to sources. The backpack is said to have been found in Dilsen-Stokkem, near the place where his abandoned car was found earlier. The vehicle contained four anti-tank launchers, ammunition and a booby trap.
The Belgian federal prosecutor’s office does not want to confirm to the news site that the backpack belongs to Conings. It’s unclear how long the backpack was in place.
Conings has been a fugitive since May 17. The Belgian authorities see him capable of murder. The 46-year-old corporal has extreme right-wing sympathies and brought heavy weapons from an Army warehouse.
In Belgian Limburg the search for Conings resumed on Wednesday, so far with no results. The former soldier has been missing for three weeks now.
