The Belgian government is intervening to alleviate the pain of the high energy bills. Households with thin wallets in particular can count on additional support.
All households can count on an advantage of a few tens. This is to be organised by replacing energy taxes with excise duties. Flemish media also report that low-income groups receive a discount of an additional 80 euros. The Belgian government also wants a ban on modifying advance invoices without the customer’s consent.
The plans will be presented on Tuesday at the Belgian opening of the parliamentary year. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo will present the budget and government plans for next year. That’s what our southern neighbours are negotiating right up to the last minute.
Later this week, the European Commission will come forward with a response to the energy crisis. Leaked documents show that Brussels mainly comes up with tips for member states to help households. The aim is also to investigate the creation of a strategic gas supply.
