Belgium HNI population is growing

According to data from the latest World Wealth Report by consulting firm Capgemini, big fortunes continue to grow worldwide. In Belgium, too, assets grew during the second year of the corona virus, although this is less rapid than the average in Europe as a whole.

The number of people with investable assets of at least one million dollars (958,000 euros) increased by 7.8 percent between 2020 and 2021, according to Capgemini. Worldwide, we can therefore speak of 22.5 million so-called high net worth individuals. In 2014, it was only 14.7 million.

In total, just over 60 percent of dollar millionaires worldwide are concentrated in the USA, Japan, Germany and China. North America, in particular, continues to do very well in terms of dollar millionaires. Europe rose slightly stronger than Asia in the period 2020-2021.

The number of high net worth individuals in Belgium increased by 5.6 percent between 2020 and 2021. Total assets increased by 6.5 percent. The main reasons for this are the recovery of our gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021, the high savings rate in our country and the real estate boom. In addition, there are also the increased market capitalization and the higher share prices. For comparison: in Denmark, wealth increased by a good 11 percent. France (+ 9.5 percent) and the UK (+ 7.4 percent) also performed well.
