Belgium proposes mandatory vaccination of healthcare personnel

Belgian Health minister Frank Vandenbroucke proposes to introduce a compulsory coronavirus vaccination for healthcare personnel. The spirits are slowly ripe for it, he said on Flemish television.

For people who work in healthcare, including for example General Practitioners and physiotherapists, the norm should be and therefore the duty to get vaccinated, according to the administrator. “As an example for other people and for safety.”

Vandenbroucke does not want to be tied to a timetable, but “will not waste any time.”In the course of september, advice will first be sought from hospitals, employers and trade unions, among others. At the same time, legal preparations are already under way.

Among others, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium recommended a mandatory vaccination for all healthcare personnel. The opinion advocates “compulsory vaccination for all caregivers and non-caregivers of hospitals, clinics and care institutions, as well as for all doctors, other healthcare professionals and carers involved in (outpatient) care.”
