Curfew should be equalised between capital and the region

Members of Parliament from both the majority and opposition want the curfew in Brussels to be equated with that of Flanders. This means from midnight to 5am instead of 10pm to 6am, including Els Rochette from One.brussels-SP.A thinks the time is right.

The discussion in the Netherlands about curfew has also reached Brussels. Brussels MPs from N-VA, Défi, MR but also One.brussels-SP.A want to align the curfew in Brussels with that of Flanders. Els Rochtette from One.brussels-SP.A : “we notice that people suffer from it every day. People who have to go on the job after 10 am and before 5 am are confronted daily with checks that are often unpleasant. It’s been months now. But even if you want to visit someone from your bubble after work, there is little time left. I also notice that with my own children, when they come to visit, when they are with their father. Time’s running out.”

But also among other parties, there is growing criticism of the current curfew in Brussels. Both MPs from N-VA but also from the French-speaking side of MR and Défi ask for less strict hours. “The debate is still ongoing and we can always submit questions about it”, Rochette continues. “Certainly now that the COVID-19 figures are heading in the right direction, that will certainly be negotiable. Although we can’t go too fast. It’s not an easy balancing act.”
