From Saturday shopping in Belgium is available ‘by appointment’

Belgium is taking more stringent coronavirus measures. Non-essential shops are only allowed to open for shopping by appointment from Saturday.

The government hope to reduce the number of coronavirus infections and hospital admissions with a’ wide cooling package’. Lately the infection rates were elevated again.

How many customers can enter at the same time depends on the size of the store. The maximum number of people involved is 50. Two people from the same family are allowed to enter the store together. Home deliveries and click & collect remain possible provided there is no physical contact and no entry into the store. Food shops, newspapers and book stores and drug stores are allowed to remain open.

Trade Federation Comeos reacts angrily. “Shops have never been a source of infections and are now having to reorganise themselves for the third time. It’s hard to understand.’

The measure is effective until 25 April.
