PostNL has been sued in Belgium for Social fraud, says a Labour auditor. In addition to the Dutch postal service, GLS and a number of their (sub)contractors are also subpoenaed.
“As far as my office is concerned, there are sufficient indications of structural fraud, in which the working conditions for the drivers who carry the parcels are probably downright bad,” says Deputy Labour auditor Gianni Reale to the newspaper. A Labour auditor is part of the Belgian public prosecutor’s office and deals with work-related matters.
Deliverers would work too long hours and be underpaid. The income would be extremely low if account were taken of the investments that the deliverers have to make for, for example, a company car and fixed charges such as petrol and insurance.
PostNL confirms by the time that the company has been subpoenaed with regard to “investigations in the logistics sector into collaborations with delivery companies”. The postal company claims to cooperate fully, but does not want to go into the matter further.
