Terror suspect to be extradited into Belgium after arrest in Germany

A Bosnian national will be extradited into Belgium after being arrested in Germany for his suspected involvement in the 2015 terror attacks in Paris, German authorities announced Thursday.

The 39-year-old Bosnian is being held in the custody of German police in preparation for his extradition into Belgian territory.

He was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by Belgium, German federal police and prosecutors from the state of Saxony said in a joint statement.

“The individual was under an arrest warrant from Belgian authorities over his presumed involvement in the terrorist attacks which particularly targetted the Bataclan concert hall in Paris,” the statement read, according to local media.

German authorities carried out the arrest last week after they tracked down the suspect while conducting an unrelated arms trafficking investigation involving two other Bosnian nationals in the town of Dresden.

No weapons were found by police when they searched the suspect’s home during his arrest. No additional details have been released by German authorities.

The investigation into the coordinated Paris attacks which left 130 people dead and 350 more injured revealed that Belgian nationals had been involved in the orchestration of the attacks.

One suspect of Belgian nationality has already been convicted in relation to both the Paris attacks and the 2016 Brussels bombings in which 32 people, not counting the perpetrators, died.
