The Belgian Embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kiev is closed due to ‘the evolution of the security situation in the country’. The embassy staff left Ukraine. This is reported by the FPS Foreign Affairs on Tuesday evening.
Earlier, for security reasons, it was decided to transfer the staff in Kiev to the French Embassy.
“Consular assistance to Belgians still in Ukraine will continue to be provided by the consular teams present at various border points with Ukraine and by the crisis centre of the FPS Foreign Affairs”, the Foreign Affairs Communication States.
Specifically, those consular teams will be located in Medyka (Poland), Koice (Slovakia), Suceava (Romania) and Chisinau (Moldova). The call center of Foreign Affairs can also be contacted (+32 2 501.40.00). The other powers of the Belgian Embassy in Kiev are taken over by our embassy in Poland. Foreign Affairs knows of at least 276 Belgians and close relatives in Ukraine. Our country is also responsible for eighteen Luxembourgers in the country.
